  1. ١. Your CV shows a nine-month gap in 2024 after your employer restructured its regional office. The interviewer asks: 'What happened here?' Which answer is best?

    • My role was made redundant in the restructuring. I used the time to earn my PMP and to choose my next move carefully.
    • To be honest, the new management was very unprofessional, and they pushed out all the experienced people like me to save money.
    • I prefer not to discuss this period, because it is personal and not really related to my professional experience.
    • I was fired because of the restructuring, but honestly it was not my fault at all, and my appraisals were always excellent.

  2. ٢. The interviewer asks: 'How big is your current team, and who do you report to?' Which answer is grammatically correct?

    • I manage a team consists of twelve analysts across two offices, and I report directly to the CFO.
    • I manage a team of twelve analysts across two offices, and I report directly to the CFO.
    • I am in charge on a team of twelve analysts across two offices, and I report directly to the CFO.
    • I manage team of twelve analysts across two offices, and I report directly for the CFO.

الشرح: الصواب a team of twelve analysts، أما a team consists of فخطأ شائع سببه حذف الاسم الموصول، والصحيح a team that consists of أو a team consisting of. ويُقال كذلك in charge of لا in charge on، وreport to لا report for، ولا بد من أداة التنكير a قبل team.

  3. ٣. The interviewer asks: 'Tell me about a time you disagreed with a senior leader's decision.' Which answer best follows the STAR method?

    • Our COO wanted a new payroll system live in four weeks. As project lead, I presented the error risks and proposed a phased rollout; we went live in eight weeks with zero errors.
    • Our team disagreed many times with the COO about the timeline of a new payroll system, and we had a lot of long discussions and meetings about it, but in the end everything was fine.
    • If I disagreed with a senior leader, I would ask for a private meeting, explain my concerns clearly with supporting data, listen to their view, and then fully commit to the final decision.
    • To be honest, I never disagree with senior leaders, because they always see the bigger picture and have more experience than me, so I simply follow their decisions and support them fully.

  4. ٤. In your STAR answer about a supplier cost-cutting project, you kept saying 'we'. The interviewer asks: 'What exactly was your personal contribution?' Which answer is best?

    • It was really a team effort, so I cannot separate my own part from the team's part, because we all did everything together.
    • My contribution was very big, because I was responsible about the whole project and I made a lot of important decisions and tasks.
    • To be honest, I did almost everything myself, because the team was not experienced enough to negotiate with big suppliers like these.
    • I built the cost model, chose which suppliers to renegotiate, and led those talks myself, which delivered most of the savings.

  5. ٥. You are a senior manager applying for a role one level below your current title. The interviewer asks: 'Why would someone at your level want this job?' Which answer is best?

    • I see it only as a temporary step, because I fully expect to be promoted to a position like yours within my first year here.
    • Because your company is very famous in the market, and the salary here is more better than what I am getting in my current job.
    • To be honest, I need a new job quickly, and any position is better than staying in my current company with my current manager.
    • This role puts me closer to product strategy, which is where I want to grow, and that matters more to me than the title.

  6. ٦. The hiring manager asks: 'If your current employer makes you a counteroffer, would you stay?' Which answer is best?

    • It depends on the numbers. If they offer me more than you, I will probably stay, because in the end it's a business decision.
    • I've already told my company I'm leaving, and they promised to raise my salary by 30% if I stay, so you should decide fast.
    • No. I'm moving for the scope of this role, not for money, so a counteroffer wouldn't change my decision.
    • Maybe, because my team depends on me a lot, and I don't want to disappoint them after all these years together.

  7. ٧. During offer negotiations, the recruiter says: 'The base salary is fixed by the grade for this role, so we can't move on it.' Which response is the most professional?

    • I understand. Is there any flexibility on the sign-on bonus, or could we agree on a salary review after six months?
    • Grades are only an excuse. Every company finds the money when it really wants someone, so please check again with your manager.
    • Can you make an exception for me, please? I have a big family and a lot of expenses this year, and my rent has increased too.
    • OK, no problem at all. I will accept whatever you can give me, because the most important thing for me is to join your company.

  8. ٨. The recruiter calls you with a verbal offer. You are pleased, but you want to review the full details before you commit. Which response is best?

    • Thank you. I'm delighted to receive this offer. Could you send it in writing, and may I get back to you by Thursday?
    • Yes, I accept immediately! I was waiting for this call, and honestly I don't need to see any details, I trust you completely.
    • Thanks for calling. Let me think about it and discuss about it with my family first, and then I will inform you with my decision.
    • Thank you, but I need some time to think about it. I will answer you when I decide, so please don't call me again before that.

أما discuss about وinform you with فخطآن شائعان لدى المتحدثين بالعربية والصواب discuss it وinform you of، كما أن القبول الفوري دون تفاصيل أو الرد المبهم بلا موعد يضران بموقفك.

  9. ٩. You are interviewing for a director role. The interviewer asks: 'What would your team say is the most frustrating thing about working for you?' Which answer is best?

    • They would say I'm too demanding, but that's their problem, because high standards are exactly what gets results in business.
    • Maybe that I care about them too much and always try to help them with everything, even with their problems outside work.
    • Honestly, nothing. My team really loves me, and they always tell me that I'm the best manager they have ever worked with.
    • They'd probably say I can ask for too much detail early on. I now agree on check-in points upfront and then step back.

You told the interviewer that your key strength is turning around underperforming teams. The interviewer replies: 'Many candidates say that. Why should I believe it?' Which answer is best?

    • Because I am very strict with lazy employees, and I replace anyone who does not perform from the first month, so the rest of the team learns quickly.
    • My previous managers always told me I am very good in this, and my colleagues also agreed, so you can call any of them for a reference if you like.
    • I've done it twice. Both teams I took over were in the bottom quartile for performance, and both reached the top quartile within 18 months.
    • Because I have a natural talent for leadership. People simply follow me without any effort from my side, it is just something in my personality.

You work for a direct competitor of the company interviewing you. The interviewer asks: 'What products is your company planning to launch next year?' Which answer is best?

    • Sure. We are launching two new products in March, but please don't say to anyone that you heard this information from me.
    • I can only give you the general idea now, but I can send you the full details by email after the interview if you need them.
    • I'm not able to share that, as it's confidential, but I'm happy to talk about how I led the planning process.
    • Sorry, this is a big secret, and I can't tell you anything at all about my company, so please ask me something else.

At the end of a final-round interview, the CEO asks: 'Is there anything else you'd like us to know?' Which answer is best?

    • Please, I really need this job, and I promise you that you will never regret choosing me. I will work day and night for your company from the first day.
    • Yes, I want to know when you will give me the final answer, and what is the exact salary and how many days of annual leave I will get here.
    • No, thank you. I think I already said everything about myself, and I don't want to take more of your time.
    • Just that I'm really excited about this role. The turnaround you described is close to the one I led at my last company, and I'd love to do it here.
